Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak Nearly Ready for A4-Based Models

You are in an iPhone Post

It was about a week ago that we heard about progress towards an untethered jailbreak for Apple devices running iOS 5. The developer of the tool, pod2g, noted that he expected work on adapting the jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 to be relatively simple, and was turning to work on it. We didn’t have any idea back then when he might hope to complete his work, but pod2g has published a new post today updating as all on his progress, and it looks like we could see a release any day now.

The jailbreak is functional on hardware with A4 chips, running iOS 5.0.1. There’s still a little work to be done making the code more stable and getting it ready for release, but it doesn’t look like there are any major obstacles to overcome.

It’s a different story for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 with their A5 processors, but now that work on A4 devices is wrapping up, pod2g says he’s turning his attention to these models. Last time, we mentioned that he didn’t have access to any of that hardware for testing, but since then fans of his work have donated enough so that he can buy both devices. We won’t hold out breath for the release of an untethered A5 jailbreak, but it’s good to know that some very capable minds are on the case.
